Itinerary

Day 1Cusco – Garden Lodge

We will arrange for your pickup from your Cusco hotel promptly at 06:00 AM. Our private transportation will then take you on an exciting journey from the majestic Andes to the enchanting Amazon region. As this is a considerable distance to cover, we have planned a couple of stops along the way to enhance your experience.

Our initial stop will be at the remote Andean town of Ninamarca, renowned for its ancient funeral towers built by the Lupacas civilization. We will provide you with a comprehensive guided tour of this historical site, offering intriguing insights into its significance.

Continuing our drive, we will reach the captivating town of Paucartambo, known for its rich folklore and preserved colonial architecture. The charming cobblestone streets and the colonial church will transport you back to a bygone era. From Paucartambo, we will ascend the hill and pause at Tres Cruces viewpoint, granting you a breathtaking panorama of the sprawling Amazon basin.

Descending through the lush eastern slope, we will enter the esteemed Manu National Park. To kickstart our Manu Jungle Tours, we will embark on a short hike, during which we will have the opportunity to observe the captivating Andean Cock of the Rock, the distinguished national bird of Peru. This region is also teeming with diverse monkey species, ensuring captivating wildlife encounters.

Once you have absorbed the wonders of this sight, we will proceed to transport you to the Garden lodge, where you will be able to unwind and fully immerse yourself in the captivating ambiance of the Amazon rainforest.

Day 2Garden Lodge – Boca Manu (Hummingbird Lodge)

In the early hours of the morning, following a satisfying breakfast, we will commence our journey towards Atalaya Port. Along the way, we will make several stops at local farms, where you will have the opportunity to witness native farmers cultivating a variety of tropical fruits. Additionally, we will explore the coca plantations in the area, providing you with valuable insights into this culturally significant plant.

Once we arrive at Atalaya Port, we will embark on a captivating boat expedition along the enchanting Madre de Dios river. During this scenic journey, you will have the chance to observe an array of bird species, including parrots, vultures, and more, as they gracefully soar through the sky. Our itinerary also includes a visit to a soothing hot spring, where you can take a rejuvenating dip, immersing yourself in the natural beauty of the surroundings.

Following a delicious lunch, we will embark on a thrilling hike, aiming to spot native mammals and rodents in their natural habitats. Continuing our voyage, we will proceed towards Boca Manu, also known as the Hummingbird Lodge, with an anticipated arrival time of 05:00 PM. As night falls, we will treat you to an authentic Amazonian dinner, crafted to tantalize your taste buds. Furthermore, for those who are inclined, there will be an optional night tour, offering the opportunity to encounter fascinating nocturnal creatures, including the elusive caymans.

Day 3Hummingbird lodge – Casa Matsiguenka Lodge

Following a delectable breakfast immersed in the Amazonian flavors, we will bid farewell to the Hummingbird Lodge. Leaving behind the crystal-clear waters of the Madre de Dios river, our journey will navigate us into the clay-rich currents of the Manu river. Along the way, we will make a stop at the Limonal park rangers office to present our permits, ensuring compliance with the regulations.

For approximately five hours, we will venture upstream towards the renowned Manu Biosphere Reserve. As we traverse the river’s shores, a captivating sight awaits us with a diverse array of nesting birds, thriving herons, elegant egrets, graceful terns, and other magnificent avian species. The tranquil waters will also grant us glimpses of the remarkable White and Black Caimans, as well as intriguing side-necked turtles.

During the daylight hours, numerous sand-colored nightjars find respite in this sanctuary. Furthermore, this region boasts an illustrious array of wildlife, including the renowned Jaguars, the third-largest feline species in the world, and the distinctive Red Howler Monkeys. A riverside stop for a delightful lunch will provide a moment to savor the surroundings.

Our next destination is the enchanting Casa Matsiguenka Lodge, managed by the indigenous Matsiguenka community. The lodge is surrounded by a network of captivating trails, with the knowledgeable Matsiguenka guides leading us on an afternoon hike. Along the way, we will have the opportunity to encounter various wildlife species and gain insights into the native plants that thrive in this remarkable ecosystem.

After a satisfying dinner, an optional nocturnal adventure awaits us—an exhilarating night safari where we can witness the fascinating activities of nocturnal creatures, further enriching our exploration of this extraordinary natural realm.

Day 4Casa Matsiguenka – Cocha Salvador

After breakfast, we will be spending the day on the Cocha Salvador Oxbow lake canoeing. From the viewpoint here, you will be able to spot Agami Heron and Brown Capuchin Monkeys. Here you will also get to see giant river otters. 

Each of these animals consume somewhere between 4 to 5 kilos of fish a day. Often you will spot them eating one. We will spend the rest of our day hiking on the Matsiguenka trails. We will be spotting 13 different species of monkeys. Your tour guide will be explaining about the cloud forest’s ecosystems and the use of medicinal plants. 

We will also be spotting groups of peccaries. After the tour, we will return to the lodge for dinner.

Day 5Casa Matsiguenka – Cocha Brasco – Boca Manu Lodge

After breakfast, we will be taking the motor boat for a downstream ride for three hours. We will then explore the beautiful Cochas. Here we will be sauntering through the forest of Cocha Braso.

This is one of the highlights on your tours to Manu National park as you will also get to see Woolly and Black Spider Monkeys. You will learn about plant life. Mostly throughout the trail, you will get to listen to the rustle of vegetation and soft sounds of fruits falling on the ground.

A visit to the lake of Cocha Braso is popular for observing wildlife. We will also be on a catamaran boat on the lookout for a large family of Giant Otters that habit this lake.

Day 6 Boca Manu – Palotoa Ecological Reserve

In the early hours of the morning, we will conclude our stay at the lodge and commence our journey on the Madre de Dios river, embarking on a scenic six-hour voyage to our exclusive Palotoa Lodge. Nestled within the heart of the remarkable Manu National Reserve, the lodge serves as our tranquil haven amid the captivating wilderness.

As the afternoon unfolds, we will have the pleasure of immersing ourselves in the serene ambiance of the jungle surroundings. Exploring at a leisurely pace, we will appreciate the natural beauty that envelops us.

With dusk approaching, we will embark on an invigorating hike to reach a cliff-top viewpoint, granting us a breathtaking panorama of the jungle canopy. It is from this vantage point that we will witness the mesmerizing spectacle of parrots and macaws as they gracefully gather and roost, painting the sky with vibrant hues during the captivating sunset.

Following this memorable experience, we will retreat to the lodge for a satisfying dinner, savoring the flavors of the Amazon. As the night settles in, we have an exciting opportunity to embark on a guided tour within the reserve, allowing us to encounter the fascinating nocturnal creatures that come to life under the moonlit sky.

Day 7Palotoa Ecological Reserve

After breakfast, we will be exploring the other part of the forest. Our guide will be explaining the importance of the plants found here. You will be able to see different species of biodiversity here. We will be spending the evening by setting a beautiful campfire next to the lodge. .

Day 8Palotoa Ecological Reserve – Cusco

At the break of dawn, we will commence our return journey by boarding the boat that will transport us to Atalaya port. Upon reaching our destination, we will rendezvous with our designated driver, who will be responsible for our safe and comfortable transportation back to the city of Cusco.
