Day 1Cusco – Km 82 – Huayllabamba

Embark on an unforgettable journey on Day 1 of the Inca Trail and Manu Amazon 8-day tour, beginning in Cusco and venturing towards Km 82, the starting point of the Inca Trail.

As you hike alongside the picturesque Urubamba river, you’ll be captivated by the awe-inspiring Vilcanota mountain range and the breathtaking landscapes of the Cusichaca valley.

Arriving at Huayllabamba, you’ll set up camp in the midst of this ancient archaeological site, immersing yourself in the history and culture of the Incas.

Day 2Huayllabamba – Pacaymayo

On Day 2 of the Inca Trail and Manu Amazon 8-day tour, you’ll embark on a challenging trek from Huayllabamba to Pacaymayo.

The highlight of the day is conquering the famous Warmiwañusca, also known as Dead Woman’s Pass, standing at an impressive altitude of 4,215 meters. As you ascend this steep path, you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views of the surrounding Cordillera Vilcabamba and the rugged beauty of the Andean landscape.

After an early breakfast, you’ll embark on the final stretch of the trail, making your way towards the iconic Sun Gate (Inti Punku). As you pass through the gate, a breathtaking view of Machu Picchu will unfold before your eyes, revealing its grandeur and mystique.

Day 5Cusco – Pilcopata – Paraiso Lodge

We depart from Cusco aboard our comfortable bus, ascending towards the picturesque town of Paucartambo. Along the journey, we visit the ancient burial towers of Ninamarca, which date back to the Pre-Inca era.

Continuing through the awe-inspiring cloud forest, abundant with lush vegetation and stunning orchids, we embark on our initial hike. Here, we have the opportunity to observe the national bird of Peru, the Andean Cock-of-the-Rock (Rupicola Peruviana), as well as monkeys and a diverse array of bird species.

If we’re fortunate, we may even catch sight of the elusive Spectacled Bear (Tremarctos Ornatus), the sole South American bear. As evening falls, we arrive at the village of Pilcopata, where we spend the night in a traditional lodge called Paradise Lodge. Basic facilities such as shared showers and toilets are available outside the village.

Day 6Pilcopata paraiso lodge – Palotoa Amazon Lodge

Following breakfast, we will proceed to Atalaya by means of a private bus. Along the route, we will make a stop to observe a plantation of coca, and we will also pause at a vantage point that provides a panoramic view of the surrounding jungle and river.

Departing from Atalaya, we will board a motorized boat to Aguas Calientes, where you will have the opportunity to indulge in the natural hot springs. Later in the afternoon, we will embark on a several-hour trek through the jungle, immersing ourselves in its diverse array of animals, birds, plants, and flowers.

If luck is on our side, we may catch glimpses of monkeys. As the evening approaches, we will return to the lodge for dinner, settling down for a restful night amidst the embrace of nature.

Day 7Palotoa Amazon Lodge

On this day, we will embark on an expedition to navigate the depths of the jungle, traversing an extensive network of trails. Carrying only a small day pack containing our lunch, we will venture forth into the heart of the wilderness.

Along our journey, we will encounter a multitude of diverse creatures, including monkeys, collared peccaries, and an array of avian species such as eagles, parrots, and toucans. The landscape will also reveal a tapestry of medicinal plants and towering trees.

If time permits, we may even have the opportunity to take a refreshing swim and engage in some fishing activities. As the sun sets and darkness descends, we will embark on a quest to spot the telltale glimmer of caiman eyes.

Our accommodation for the night will be at a comfortable lodge, where we will gather around a crackling bonfire, indulging in relaxation, drinks, and a delectable BBQ feast.

Day 8Palotoa Amazon Lodge – Cusco

Following a satisfying breakfast, we will commence our journey back to Atalaya by boat, where our dedicated private bus eagerly awaits to transport us back to the city of Cusco. Our return route will take us through the captivating cloud forest and the enchanting town of Paucartambo. As the day progresses, we will eventually arrive in Cusco during the late afternoon, bringing our adventure to a close.

When is the best time to travel the Inca Trail?

The high season on the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu is from May to September, because this time coincides with vacations in the Western Hemisphere. These months probably offer the best trekking conditions with a dry and sunny climate.
The Inca Trail closes the month of February of each year, because it is the rainiest month.

Can children do the Inca Trail?

Children accustomed to walking can do the Inca Trail, although we recommend that they be over 12 years old.

Do I need a great physicist to travel the Inca Trail?

It is recommended that you have a good level of physical condition, however, you do not have to be a fan of exercise.

Will I be affected by altitude sickness?

Altitude is one of the biggest challenges about trekking in Peru. To help you acclimatize and avoid the symptoms of altitude sickness, we recommend the following:

– Avoid alcohol and smoking.
– Drink a lot of liquid. Coca tea is an ancient ancestral remedy.
– Avoid agitation and strenuous exercise upon arrival in Cusco.
– Avoid sleeping pills.
– Spend between 2 and 3 days to acclimatize before starting your walk.

What happens if I get sick and need to go back?

This does not happen very often; However, if it happens, our guides are very experienced and know how to act in case of any emergency or unexpected occurrence; They will do everything possible to help you complete your walk. In addition, first aid kits and oxygen tanks are carried for emergencies. However, if you become seriously ill and need to return to Cusco, you will be treated quickly and arrangements will be made for you.

Are there many bathrooms on the Inca Trail?

There are several toilets along the way, some have toilets, but most of them do not. When you are in your camp, you will have a bathroom store that will be only for your group.
